These units will come off stock and be recorded against a non-conformance number. The number is issued for you.
Only an unopened return can go back on the shelf. Anything with signs of use, or sent back without agreement, is held aside or scrapped.
One line on what was done and why. If it was minor and needed no investigation, say so — the record has to show that decision either way.
The non-conformance, the returned goods and the stock movement are all wound back, as if it had never been recorded. Only possible while nothing else has moved on that batch since. The undo itself stays in the audit.

The stock record above logs changes, so a look-but-do-not-touch login would never appear in it. This is the other half: every time somebody opened a record, printed a stock list or signed out.
Non-conformances
Units written off because something was wrong with them. They leave stock the same way a dispatch does, so nothing disappears without a record, and each one says why.

Find the parcel it went out on, not the product. The dispatch line is the only thing that knows which batch the item belongs to — a parcel can carry two of the same size from two different batches, and a return put back on the wrong one leaves the balances looking right and the traceability wrong. Every return raises a non-conformance, and nothing goes back on the shelf until somebody says it may.
